Shik Shack is your one-stop-shop for everything awesome and community inspired. We are all about social integration, pro-poor tourism and an amazing grassroots inspired African experience. From low-key under the stars camping experiences, to locally cooked meals including the staple diet of “pap” “sheba”and “marog” to veggies from our community food security garden. Enjoy this in our “boskombuis”or bush kitchen… cooked over an open fire. Then either chill out and help the grannies in the garden, learn how to bead with recycled beads Trash 2 Treasure style with Nourish (a local NGO operating in community development and upliftment) spend time helping teach children how to read or do homework in our community library, or just chill in a hammock under a beautiful Marula tree and listen to the birds, and faint chime of cowbells in the distance ringing from the local village. And of course at night– sit around the fire and listen to the roar of lions serenading in the night air– as we lie only 20 kms from the World Renown Kruger National Park. For the intrepid and adventurous of spirit, join a walking tour of Sigagule village and learn about the local culture– walk to the village tap, local creche, and mingle -seeing and tasting a side of Africa on foot that most only miss. Greet the local chief “Induna”of the village, taste fermented local drinks made of Marula fruit, watch the sunset at the beautiful Sigagule dam, and then head to a “shebeen”or “tavern” if you wish to sample the all-time-favourite local beer “Zamalek”and dance to Shangaan tunes. Enjoy your time with us, be real – be local – be inspired!
